The ICDE Presidents’ Summit 2014, hosted by Universitas Terbuka, took place from 19-21 November in Bali and was attended by Presidents, Rectors and Vice-Chancellors from higher education institutions across the globe.

Major highlights included the ICDE-UNESCO Policy Forum, which produced the Bali message, and the closed Presidents' meeting.

Educational leaders representing countries around the world attended this year's Presidents' Summit, which focused on developing sustainable business models and finding strategic pedagogical approaches.

Over three days, the attendees listened to keynote speeches and presentations and participated in panel discussions and group sessions, all centred around the theme of 'Leadership Challenges: Approaches Towards Successful Open Education Models.' The attendees were also treated to Balinese cultural performances and Universitas Terbuka's Indonesian hospitality.

On Thursday 20 November, the ICDE -UNESCO Policy Forum took place where the higher leaders endorsed UNESCO's post-2015 Global Education Agenda and agreed that access to, and success in, open, online and flexible learning are key solutions to the pressing development challenges and needs of 21st century societies. The leaders also produced 20 specific actions for governments, institutions and faculty. For more information, see the Bali message.

On Friday 21 November, Presidents, Rectors and Vice Chancellors (or their formal replacement) and the heads of distance education departments attended the closed Presidents' meeting.
