ICDE Quality Network Webinar Series: #4 - International Reflections on Lessons Learned during the Covid-19 Pandemic (recording available)

On the 9th of December, he fourth and final webinar in the webinar series showcasing the ICDE Quality Network, "International reflections on lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic" was presented by Regional Focal Points from Asia.

The fourth webinar was opened by ICDE Secretary General, Ms. Torunn Gjelsvik, and chaired by Professor Alan Tait (Open University, UK) while showcasing two regional speakers from the Asian Regions. This final webinar took a specific look at quality assurance and how QA has been affected during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The two speakers presenting were Ojat Darojat, Rector of Universitas Terbuka Indonesia (UT) and President of Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) and Prof. Melinda dela Pena Bandalaria, Chancellor and Professor at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU).

Prof. Melinda dela Pena Bandalaria (UPOU) discussed the current context of online learning, and what we have learned from the last nine months of emergency online learning. She discussed five major insights of lessons learned, one of the most conversation grabbing was the organizational chart provided which highlighted 12 Learning Outcome ideologies and those responsible for their creation. Ojat Darojat (UT and AAOU) discussed many misconceptions of distance education, and how this has effected the online learing comunity. In order for distance education to work successfully, there are many stakeholders that need to work together, including but not limited to: governments, higher education institutions, society, users, and students.
