ICDE present at United Nation Transforming Education Pre-Summit 2022

 

On 28 and 29 June, ICDE participated and presented at the United Nations Transforming Education Pre-Summit at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.

ICDE was represented by the Secretary General, Ms. Torunn Gjelsvik, at the Pre-Summit leading up to the UN Transforming Education Summit (TES) in New York, USA in September 2022. The overall objective of the Pre‐Summit is to harness the evolving discussions on transforming education, elaborate initial content and establish a shared vision and suggested actions for the Summit, and generate greater momentum in the lead up to the Summit in September. The Pre-Summit is by invitation only, and provide a great opportunity for ICDE to have a footprint in the future of education globally. More information on the Pre-Summit and the Summit here.



United Nation TES Pre-Summit Side-Event

The ICDE Secretary General also took part in the Pre-Summit Side-Event “Media and Information Literacy and Digital Competencies: Networks, Tools, Empowerment for Learning Transformation” on 28 June. She presented the ICDE Francophone OER project together with Jaques Dang from ICDE member L’Université Numérique at the Pre-Summit Side-Event, in the session titled “Coalitions for Open Content and Teacher Training: Implementing the UNESCO OER Recommendation - Scaling up open education resources for education transformation”. The other speakers in the session were ICDE Board member and Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Open University, Dr. Melinda d.P Bandalaria, Dr. Cable Green from Creative Commons, and Neil Butcher from Neil Butcher & Associates.

The expected outcome of the Side-Event is a set of recommendations and action-oriented commitments to form the basis for future proposals. These will be carried forward to the Transforming Education Summit in September 2022 at the United Nation General Assembly.
