Distance Education in Myanmar

 

After years of isolation from the academic mainstream, Myanmar is rebuilding its capacity to educate its population. In this enlightening article, Hla Tint, Acting Rector of ICDE member institution Yangon University of Distance Education describes ongoing efforts and challenges in building capacity in the country.

Prof. Dr Hla Tint strongly believes in collaboration between existing universities and international institutions needing to be enhanced and is keen to form partnerships with institutions from other countries. He demonstrates how universities of distance education in Myanmar make use of advanced technologies to increase the development of open and distance learning. Challenges come in the form of degree accreditation and standard guidelines for quality provision.
